Hyperthyroidism

To reduce the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, a doctor may prescribe a drug known as a beta blocker. This medication acts by blocking the effects of hyperthyroidism on your body. However, this medicine does not stop thyroid hormone production.
Radioactive Iodine Therapy
Radioactive Iodine therapy is an effective and common treatment for hyperthyroidism. The radiation will slowly destroy the cells that make up the thyroid gland.
Thyroid Surgery
Surgery to remove most or part of the thyroid gland is not as widely used as the other treatments described above. A Doctor may sometimes choose surgery to treat a patient who cannot tolerate antithyroid drugs.

If you choose to treat your hyperthyroidism with a hyperthyroidism diet, there are foods that will help depress thyroid activity. These foods include: broccoli, cabbage brussel sprouts, cauliflower, kale, spinach, turnips, beans and soy.
