What Are
Bach Flowers?
Discovered by Dr. Edward Bach, Bach Flowers have been around for decades.
Dr. Bach believed that certain flowers had healing energies. Harness the
energies of the flowers and you can cure dis-ease and dis-order. It was
his belief that the cause of every dis-ease and dis-order
stemmed from the mental and emotional aspects of our being. It means
that there is an imbalance between the soul and the body. He developed
the Bach Flower Remedies to restore balance and, thereby cure dis-ease
and dis-order creating a feeling of calm and balance.
In 1928, while maintaining his medical practice, Dr. Bach spent his spare
time researching plants and herbs. It was during this period that he developed
the first three flower remedies that he would work with; Impatiens, Mimulus and
Clematis. His familiarity with homeopathic provings (testing the curative
properties of substances) and his sensitivity to the subtle qualities of plants
suggested the type of personality these flowers could provide relief for. As a
result, Dr. Bach started prescribing the flower essences based on the emotional
characteristics of the patient. Using this method, he was able to get results
he had never seen before, results which showed that the whole person was being
brought into a state of greater health. This so impressed him as a healer that
he concentrated on flower remedy treatment and stopped using conventional medicine
altogether.
In conventional medicine, often called "Western Medicine", the doctor tends to treat
the outward appearing issue as the problem rather than attempting to find the
underlying or root cause. Eastern medicine looks at the whole person, treating
the mind, body and soul as a unit. In this philosophy, the issue is a symptom
rather than the problem. The question that the whole body practitioner will ask
"What is out of balance to cause this issue?" Dr. Bach began treating his
patience using this philosophy and taught his three practitioners the same way.
Since his death in 1936, Dr. Bach's flower essences have been used throughout
the world. Practitioners focus on balancing their patients, treating the whole
person rather than just one symptom. For this reason, we often find that new
symptoms surface after taking a combination for a while. This happens because
the first set of issues has been dealt with and one or more new issues have come
to the surface. It's similar to having a headache; your eyes may burn, your head
pound and your ears ring but you tend not to be aware of how badly your head hurts
or your ears are ringing until you close your eyes. Bach Flower essences will
help you to resolve all of these issues so you are in balance and each moment
truly is a joyous experience.
There are thirty-eight original Bach remedies plus "Rescue RemedyTM",
each prescribed for certain mental and emotional problems. They form a complete
system with which practitioners treat every variety of human emotional imbalance.
