A magazine cover recently asked "What are you really thankful
for?" That's a question I've been pondering a lot lately because
of a course that I've been taking at my place of worship. We are
encouraged to practice gratitude. Each day, before we go to bed,
we are asked to come up with five to ten things we are grateful for.
As I review my day, I pick out those things, little or big, that I
especially appreciate. Perhaps my spouse who made me coffee, or my
daughter who did her homework without argument. There are big things
too, like a customer that I was able to help. I find this
practice really ends my day on a high note and starts the next day
on one as well.
But what am I really thankful for? What do I really
appreciate? I mean really. What a great question. It's one that
I've been thinking about for quite a while since it's my job to deliver the
"speech" every year at Thanksgiving.
Imagine yourself sitting at the Thanksgiving table surrounded by family
and friends, everyone happy and joyful. In that moment, what are you
thankful for? What about the next morning? Or the next week?
The truth is, it's the little things that make up each day that amount to
our lives that we need to be thankful for. The people you meet, the green
light at the corner, great day at work, the spouse who brings you coffee
or the next meal you eat. So, what am I grateful for? The charmed, blessed
life that I lead and every little piece of it.
What about you? What are the little things that make up your life that
you are thankful for? Who are you grateful for? Start blessing these things
and soon you may find that you too live a charmed, blessed life. For what
you appreciate, appreciates!
Here's to a happy, healthy, blessed, love filled November.
